Frequently Asked Questions

Podiatry

A podiatrist is a medical professional who specialises in diagnosing, treating, and preventing conditions related to the feet, ankles, and lower leg. Podiatrists are highly educated and trained in the full range of foot and ankle issues that can occur.

If you have any problems affecting your feet, ankle, or lower legs, or you are worried about anything in relation to them, it is a good idea to consult a podiatrist for professional advice. As well as treating any issues, a podiatrist will advise you on courses of action and prevention too. It is also advisable to see a podiatrist to maintain good foot health and pre-empt many issues.

Your doctor may recommend you see a podiatrist and may or may not actually refer you. However, you do not need a referral to make an appointment to see a podiatrist. We will always write to your doctor, with your permission, if we feel it is necessary or would be helpful for your medical records and wellbeing.

People with diabetes are at greater risk of poor circulation and injury due to loss of feeling in the feet. If left untreated, this can lead to serious complications, and even amputation. We can diagnose and treat problems resulting from diabetes and we can also help you manage and prevent them if we catch things early enough. Maintaining good foot health and being vigilant will help you stay healthier and more mobile for longer.

We welcome people of all ages to the Christchurch Foot Clinic and that includes children! Anyone under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian for all appointments.

Treatments

You’ll find an extensive list of treatments on our Services page. If there is a service or treatment you are interested in but do not see on our list, please get in touch as we may be able to help you.

Verrucas are notoriously difficult to get rid of. SWIFT microwave therapy is non-invasive, safe, and effective. It has been licenced for the treatment of warts and verrucas and works by prompting an immune response in the body. A special probe is applied to the skin for up to five seconds at a time and microwave energy generates heat in the verruca. You may experience pain or minor discomfort during that time and stubborn verrucas may require more than one treatment.

Most people will be able to undergo this type of therapy although it may not be appropriate for all; we can advise you.

Clearanail treatment is a new technology that has been developed to treat fungal nail infections. These infections can be incredibly hard to treat because the source of the infection is under the nail. Traditionally, oral antifungals are prescribed that may have unwanted side effects. Alternatively, the patient has to undergo and recover from nail surgery.

Clearanail is a painless treatment that creates micro holes in the nail, through which anti-fungal treatment can be administered. It also allows for proper testing of the fungal infection, ensuring you get the right treatment in the first place.

Clinic

We do not currently deal directly with private medical insurance companies; patients need to pay the clinic and then claim back their costs from their own insurance companies.

We can take payment by cash, debit or credit card including American Express, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. We can also take payment over the phone if necessary.

We offer gift vouchers too, so why not gift a friend or family member some quality foot-care time? Please ask at reception.

The Christchurch Foot Clinic team is highly qualified and Health Care and Professions registered. We have over 40 years of experience between us. You’ll find more about your podiatrists and their backgrounds on our Meet The Team page.

You will find us at 4 Wick Lane, Christchurch, BH23 1HX. The practice is based in a 200-year-old cottage close to Christchurch Priory. A car park offering paid parking is available approximately five minutes’ walk away. There is also free parking across the road from the clinic for Blue Badge holders. Please note these spaces are often full, however.

The Christchurch Foot Clinic is accessible to wheelchair and mobility scooter users and there are no steps, stairs, or tight spaces to negotiate. We can treat patients in wheelchairs rather than on a treatment chair if necessary.
