Foot Care

Management of issues like hard skin and cracked heels

Feet with hard skin and cracked heels might not look great – but it’s not just about looks. If left untreated it can lead to deeper fissures developing that can make walking painful and may even become infected. This can be difficult to treat and will take time to heal. Make sure you deal with it before it becomes a problem!

Foot Problems

Including bunions, corns, calluses, hammer and claw toes, plantar fasciitis, and heel and foot pain

You may have a job that requires you to be on your feet all day, or you might spend most of the day sitting. Either way, common problems can develop if you don’t look after your feet properly. We can look at the source of these issues and offer advice and treatment for common problems like bunions, corns, calluses, hammer and claw toes, and general heel and foot pain, including plantar fasciitis.

Nail Problems

Including thickened or ingrowing toenails

We deal with every aspect of the nails from toenail cutting to nail surgery. Nails can thicken, either with age or as a consequence of conditions like psoriasis or fungal infections. They can also become ingrown, which is when the sides or corner of the toenail dig into the surrounding soft tissue. Leaving these problems untreated can lead to pain and the risk of serious infection. We are also able to perform nail surgery at the clinic for ingrowing toenails.

Skin Problems

Diagnosis and treatment of skin problems affecting the foot

Skin problems can be difficult to identify and treat without the relevant specialist training, particularly on the lower limbs and feet. We can use an instrument called a dermatoscope when necessary to better identify and treat skin problems affecting the foot. Early identification of potentially dangerous skin lesions can significantly improve the outcome. If you are worried about something, don’t delay in getting it checked out!

Diabetes Foot Care

Care and check-ups for patients with diabetes

Patients with diabetes need to carefully manage their condition and this includes foot health. Diabetes can lead to nerve damage and poor circulation. Loss of feeling in the feet can mean you can more easily damage your feet without being aware of it. The risk of infection and other problems therefore becomes greater and can have serious consequences.

Doppler Ultrasound

Assessment Of Lower Limb Circulation

Doppler Ultrasound

Doppler ultrasound is a pain-free, non-invasive way to check lower limb blood circulation. This is particularly important for people with diabetes and for those who are pre-diabetic. Good circulation is vital for helping to prevent nerve damage and loss of feeling in your feet, which can in turn lead to serious problems.

Treatment For Fungal Nail Infection

Clearanail

Fungal nail infections can be very difficult to both effectively diagnose and treat. Clearanail treatment is an effective and safe treatment that has been developed by experts in the field. Clearanail technology is painless and suitable for most people.

SWIFT Microwave Therapy

Verrucas and Warts

SWIFT Microwave Therapy

There are various ways to treat verrucas and warts, ranging from creams, gels, and sprays to medicated plasters and cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen. These methods all have limited success. We can also offer SWIFT microwave technology, which is a non-invasive and safe method for dealing more successfully with verrucas and warts.

Orthotics and Footwear Advice

Custom-made insoles

What you wear on your feet can make a difference and we can advise you on what would be best for you. If you have heel or foot pain or your ankles tend to lean inwards or outwards, you may find orthotics – an artificial support – in your shoes may help. We can custom make these for you so they will do the job they are designed for. We will only recommend these after a full assessment of the issues you are experiencing.

Nail Reconstruction

Nail Reconstruction

For fungal nail and thick nails

Many people suffer from diseased or damaged toenails which results in unattractive feet. Toenail reconstruction involves applying layers of a special gel to the damaged nail/portion of the nails bed. UV light is then used to harden the gel. This gel is not the same as the acrylic gel used for manicures and pedicures!

Nail Surgery

For ingrown toenails and fungal nail

Nail surgery is the partial or complete removal of a toenail using local anaesthetic. Nail surgery is usually offered when  ingrown toenails are causing significant discomfort. We may suggest nail surgery if the nail cannot be effectively managed through regular podiatry visits. We may also offer nail surgery for nails damaged by fungal infection.
